Congratulations, Southwood Elementary!: Southwood Elementary School has been named a 2009 Washington State School of Distinction by Washington State Kappan and Center for Education. This designation is awarded to schools that improve test scores over the last five years and move students up on each of the performance levels (level one to two, two to three and three to four). Southwood is one of 55 elementary schools receiving this honor, and is also one of sixteen repeat winners. Sock and Underwear Drive: The Southwood PTA is sponsoring a sock and underwear drive. Donations of new socks and underwear is being accepted from March 1-March 19. The class that brings in the most items/packages will win a popcorn party. All the items donated during the drive will be taken to the Enumclaw School District's Clothing Bank. PTA Meeting: The next PTA meeting is Tuesday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Southwood library. Class Picture Day: Class picture day is Wednesday, March 10, 2010. Family Bingo Night: The Southwood PTA is sponsoring a Family Bingo Night on Friday, March 19 from 7-8 p.m. in the Southwood Gym (seating starts at 6:45 p.m.) Bingo is free, and there are refreshments for sale. Donations for the sock and underwear drive will also be taken at the bingo night; by bringing in a new package of socks or underwear for the drive, you will be entered into a raffle for prizes. Kindergarten Registration: Kindergarten registration night will take place at Southwood Elementary on Thursday, April 1, at 6:30 p.m. To register for kindergarten, children must five years old on or before August 31, a parent must present a child's birth certificate at registration, Washington State immunization requirements must be met, and proof of residence must be provided. PTA Business Memberships: The Southwood PTA is now offering business memberships. Please click on the link for further information. eScrip Program: The Southwood PTA has signed up for the eScrip program; our group ID# is 8566764. Visit www.escrip.com for more information, or to register your Safeway Club Card, and others if you would like. Printer Ink Cartridge Recycling: The Southwood PTA is now collecting used, ready to throw away ink cartridges from printers. The PTA will be recycling them for cash. Place the cartridge(s) in a baggie marked "PTA" and send it in with your child. |
